In Beijing for the Winter Olympics, Albert of Monaco took advantage of his stay in China to meet President Xi Jinping, who gave him an adorable gift as a souvenir for his children, Jacques and Gabriella.
To support the Monegasque athletes, Albert of Monaco flew to Beijing for the Winter Olympics. During his trip, the prince, who is passionate about winter sports, also has the mission to strengthen diplomatic relations between the principality and China, as detailed in Monaco Tribune, Tuesday, February 8. As a result, he went to meet his Chinese counterpart, President Xi Jinping. “The Chinese president spoke of Prince Albert’s Olympic achievements, then of Sino-Monegasque relations, materialized in particular by the deployment of 5G in Monaco,” before calling “on Monegasque companies to invest in China.”
“Relations between China and Monaco have become a model of friendly exchanges and mutual benefits between countries of different sizes, histories and cultures,” the president noted at the end of the exchange. Delighted by his meeting with Prince Albert, he offered him a figurine “in the image of the mascot of the Games, Bing Dwen Dwen, the little panda”, as a thank you. And if the husband Charlene of Monaco was touched by the gesture, he allowed himself a very particular request. “Can I ask you a big favor? Can I do a second one? I have twins, and if I only bring this one home…” he then asked.
The Chinese president sends his tender thoughts to Jacques and Gabriella of Monaco
A request to which the President of the People’s Republic of China acceded with pleasure, as evidenced by the images captured by the Chinese television channel CGTN. A little later, the latter also wanted to send an affectionate message to his Monegasque counterpart for his twins: “You have chosen two adorable Bing Dwen Dwens as souvenirs for your children. We hope that as they grow up they will become as talented and passionate about winter sports as you are.”
